Biography
Mike Stevens began playing drums at the age of 9 and by the time he reached 15 he was playing professionally. Equally comfortable in the pit for musicals or playing timpani with an orchestra Mike quickly became first call sub for many of Eastern Connecticut's music ensembles and was the resident drummer for several rock and jazz groups in the area.
After high school the Army band offered Mike a position as drummer/percussionist in the prestigious 76th Division band. Six years were dedicated performing an eclectic mix of jazz, rock, Dixieland, various concert bands as well as a special jazz combo unit assembled for formal military evening events.
Once Mike's Army contract was up the next musical progression seemed obvious - move to New York City and get involved in the local music scene. He soon found himself performing with rock and folk bands, touring the United States as well as recording albums both locally and in Europe. It is here that Mike truly honed his skills and discovered his calling of becoming a professional musician.
Seeking more music in his life Mike recently moved to the Bay Area where he is actively involved in performances with a number of local bands. When he isn't on stage Mike is dedicating his time to inspiring new and seasoned drummers with his teaching methods.
